Hello! I’m Johanna!
The artist behind Jo’s Art Space.
Originally from Bengaluru, India, I’ve lived in many places, which has inspired my love for art and design. Now based in Connecticut, I focus on creating nature-inspired paintings and offering custom artwork.
My website features original paintings, crocheted art, commissioned artworks including murals, mosaics, Christmas ornaments, wood plank art and wedding related art. I also provide interior design consultations to help clients envision a space that is functional as well as aesthetically pleasing by incorporate personalized art.

My Journey
Jo's Art Space is my creative brainchild, where I combine my passions for art and design with a nature centric perspective. My father’s transferrable job allowed us as a family to live in numerous places within India, which sparked my lifelong appreciation for diverse cities and cultures. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from BMS College of Engineering in Bengaluru. This foundation in design has been instrumental in shaping my artistic and interior design pursuits.
In 2007, I moved to the United States to join my spouse in Massachusetts. In addition to developing my art practice, I worked as a designer at a Boston architecture firm.
While in Tanzania, my spouse and I served as mission volunteers for the Episcopal church at Msalato Theological College in the Anglican diocese of Central Tanganika. During my time there, I had the opportunity to develop several interior design projects for the community, including renovations of the staff lounge, librarians’ office, men’s dormitory and reorganizing a preschool at the seminary. This experience allowed me to combine my professional skills with community service, which was incredibly fulfilling.
I currently live in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, with my spouse, two sons, and our dog. Creating art with my children brings me great joy, and I truly believe that "boredom sparks creativity, and creativity fosters curiosity and problem-solving."

The Birth of Jo’s Art Space
In 2015, while living in Arizona, I launched my art and design business, originally called Jo’S-pace. Since then, I’ve worked on a variety of projects, including interior design renovations in New York, Philadelphia, and Connecticut, as well as creating commissioned murals, stained glass mosaics, and custom art pieces. My work has also been showcased in exhibitions like the Hygienic Art Salon des Independents in New London, Connecticut.
Today, my business is known as Jo's Art Space, where I focus on original paintings, commissioned artwork, and creative workshops. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I’m excited to continue exploring new artistic possibilities.

Artistic Vision
My work is deeply inspired by the beauty of nature. I love creating landscapes and nature-themed pieces that celebrate intricate details often overlooked. Collaborating with clients is another source of inspiration, as I enjoy transforming their unique visions into custom art pieces that hold personal meaning. Another passion of mine is to create art with recyclable materials and engaging with children to foster curiosity and imagination through recycled art.
